Shearer Warned Off Toon Job!

I would have thought there is not a player alive who knows more about Newcastle United than Alan Shearer. Not only has he just equalled Jackie Milburn's goalscoring record, be he is a life-long Toon fan and was a ball-boy when Kevin Keegan made his debut.

No matter how you look at it ... that is a very impressive CV. Yet some guy from the Plymouth Herald has warned the GOALden-Boy to stay clear of the Newcatle manager's job. Obviously he knows more about Newcastle!

'I was very fortunate to play against Shearer when he was younger at Southampton, during my Bournemouth days, and he was a handful even then. He has had a fantastic career and he's a legend in Newcastle. I have no doubt in my mind that one day he will manage the football club.

'Whether that's the right thing for Alan to do or not, I don't know. Only time will tell. Sometimes, when you put yourself up as a manager, all those great occasions and memories of being a player can be washed away. If I was in Shearer's position, I'm not so sure I would do it.

'It has definitely proved to be a poisoned chalice to a lot of managers, although they will give Alan much more grace and time than anybody else on this planet. But, at the end of the day, if you don't get the results he could come under the same microscope that Sir Bobby Robson has come under, as well as Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and people of that magnitude.'
