'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Paper Talk

Whilst a lot of the Sunday tattle is based on incomings this week it`s nice to start with an 'I`m staying` story as Oba Martins has pledged his immediate future to the club. Speaking to the paper he said:

'I am happy at Newcastle - I love the city and the people. I have settled very quickly, with the help of the players and the manager. It is not about what I have achieved in seven months, it is about the full five years of my contract and I intend to be at Newcastle for all that time. Our fans are the best in the world. Even if we are losing or not playing well there are still 52,000 backing us and I respect that. I want them to know that the best is yet to come from me. I am excited about what lies ahead.'

A promising start then. On to the transfers in and it`s hardly a selection to get the mouth salivating. The NOTW has us in for Paul Robinson (the West Brom left back, not the Spurs keeper) whilst also being in with Bolton for Southampton revelation Marek Saganowski. The one semi-high profile link is Javier Saviola from Barcelona, once his contract expires this summer. Spurs are also mentioned as suitors. Hardly a bright start to the summer…
