Guesswork on Gooch

Talk rumbles on over whether Oguchi Onyewu will be making his loan move a permanent one as Standard Liege prod, poke and press Glenn Roeder over whether or not he`ll be signing. The crux of the matter is that we`ve agreed a fee with Liege for a move should we want. However that runs out at the end of this week and, if we end up deciding to take the lad, we`ll have to renegotiate a deal amidst a seller`s market in the summer. So Mr Roeder has yet another tough decision over whether he wants to splash out an initial chunk of his summer cash on someone that hasn`t exactly set the PL alight.

From my own personal opinion I remember Daniel Van Buyten being on loan to Man City and having a bit of a mare for the Citizens. However he`s now playing for Bayern Munich and notched two goals against AC Milan in the San Siro. It shows how difficult it is to judge a player on 10 or so loan games. Obviously GR is going to have seen him in training and practice games so he`ll be in a far better position to assess him then the fans, who base their opinions on what they see for 90 minutes every Saturday (or whenever in these days of fixture juggling). However I`d be loathe to spend more than £2.5m on him and, if we are serious about giving Taylor a long run in the team, I`d be far more inclined to put the brass towards a real top draw centre half.

I'd let the lad go. His Charlton performance was an embarrassment.

Agreed. We've got lads like Edgar and Ramage who can be squad players. Better off spending the money we'd pay for him on part of a big player's transfer.
