More bad press

With the broadsheets savaging Roeder and his many excuses, the tabloids seem to have rounded on the players themselves. The Mirror today goes with the tack that only three of the squad bothered to sign autographs for waiting fans. The nationals seem to be turning on the team at the moment, blasting them as overpaid, arrogant underachievers. The Mirror`s key points were:

• With the exception of Obafemi Martins and Nolberto Solano, he was badly let down by a side of multi-millionaires who only started playing when Emre bagged a second-half penalty.

• Such is the arrogance of the Newcastle team that after the game only Martins and local boys Peter Ramage and Steve Harper bothered to make the 10-yard walk from the team coach to sign autographs for the fans waiting patiently outside.

• The way England Under-21 defender Taylor was shrugged off the ball made the summer links with Chelsea look laughable.

Overall then not a good day in the press for the side or the manager. Hopefully a bit of public criticism might spur them on for the weekend.
