A cracking quote appears on the first page of Tom Cary`s excellent review of the Pompey game in today`s Telegraph. Picking up on what we`ve been saying for a while here at Vital Newcastle the paper quotes:
"For a man who does not like to make excuses for his team, Glenn Roeder plays the injury card an awful lot. The Newcastle manager was left understandably frustrated by his side's listless performance at Fratton Park - which all but ends their push for Europe - but choosing to trot out the old St James' Park injury curse at the home of Harry Redknapp, a manager who consistently maximises the scant resources available to him, was never going to win him much sympathy."

The paper also went through the considerable resources Roeder has had at his disposal, including a £10m striker, two £5m wingers and a £11m worth of central midfielders. Hardly scant is it? In a way it`s nice that the media aren`t being fooled by Roeder`s repetitive rhetoric. The bloke seems to be on very thin ice and having the papers turning out their knives isn`t a good sign. I think he needs to focus less on the positive patter and more on the training ground.

Too many excuses, too few performances. I don't think he'll see out the summer.

Players who want to play seem to get fit quickly. Those who aren't in a hurry, drag the injury out. GR has the personality & man management skills of a woodlice.

Painfully so. I can't say I'd get particularly motivated, even with his hairdryer treatment. I think I'd be napping in the corner of the dressing room!

Hardly Mr Motivation is he? Sick of his injury excuses and the carrying passengers stuff - it's his job to make the decisions on who to play.
