Roeder singing Carroll`s (praises)

Having spoken at length in our Pompey match preview about giving lads like Andy Carroll a chance before the end of the season, Glenn Roeder must have been having a sneaky peek at Vital Newcastle some time pre-match as the big local lad ended up getting a full 45 minutes of the second half, coming on for the spaced out Zog. In a decent shift, he set up Milner for the penalty decision and generally made a decent impression. This seemed to go down well with the gaffer, who commented:

"Big Andy has come on and helped change things. It`s no coincidence we were far a better side in the second half. His hold up play was excellent and he found a black and white shirt everytime he touched the ball. He`s a great lad and hopefully we`ll see a great deal more of Andy Carroll over the next few years at Newcastle United."
