'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bigging up yourself

In possibly his most Mourinho-esque media ramblings so far Glenn reels out all the clichés and passes the buck on why the club aren`t a top six side this season. Blatantly ignoring the fact he can`t pick a team to win and make crunch decisions when he has a full squad to choose from, instead he focuses on how great a job he`s done with his limited resources. It`s all gone a bit 'Souness` from the current SJP hotseat incumbent:

"There aint anyone in any way, any manager, who could have kept Newcastle in the top six this year. It is Fantasy Island for the ones who think they could have. What I would say is that if we finish these last eight games strongly, win games and finish up the table, under the circumstances that is the best we could have done. No one would have done any better. I'm talking about me here. No one would have done any better than me. We have had the worst injury crisis in the club's history and in any other club's history. We have had a dozen players out for six months. I've never been able to put Michael Owen's name on a team sheet to start. I have had him once as a sub. No one else, with what's happened here and the injuries we've had for six months now, would have done any better.'

Looking through the text our manager has become an increasingly large media liability. Feeling free to comment on anything and everything he made a point of pillorying Souness` constant issues with injuries and his stock 'price on the ticket`, 'proper players` and 'I`m a big boy` quotes when he first took over. Now, when the chips are down, we find him almost directly mimicking these quotes. It doesn`t look too clever Glenn.
