'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Louis van Gaal on tomorrow

Speaking to the media ahead of the UEFA Cup tie tomorrow night Alkmaar coach Louis van Gaal seemed a confident chappie as he is poised to pit his wits against Glenn Roeder:

"At the moment I know everything there is to know about Newcastle United because I always do a tremendous amount of homework on the opposition. I have watched a lot of videos on Newcastle United and I know the smallest details about them.I am amazed that with the players they have got, like Martins, Dyer, Butt and Solano, they are not in the top four of the Premiership.

Not many teams in Europe could score five goals in two matches against Fenerbahce like we did. We have shown that we can attack away from home by scoring three times in Istanbul, and I expect there will be a lot of goals in the two matches with Newcastle United. But the key over the two matches will be in defence, and after looking closely at Newcastle and studying things, I think we are better here, too.'
