'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Daily Round Up - 02/03/2007

Speaking about his £10m man, GR has yet again bigged up his signing and the way he has adapted. Speaking to the Chronicle he said:

'Oba Martins has 14 goals for us this season and every one of them has been special. Even we when lost to Fulham at Craven Cottage two weeks ago his strike was still the best of the match. There is nobody in the Premiership who can hit a shot with so much venom from such a short back-lift and this is reflected in his goals.

It would not worry me in the slightest if Martins came up with a run-of-the-mill goal for once, maybe from a tap-in or poked in from two yards. He has not scored a goal like this for us but he is alert in and around the six-yard box and he will put away a few goals like this before the end of the season.'

Lee Clark has chipped in regarding his new role as the Reserve team coach. Speaking about how he wants his young side to play football he quipped:

'I've been brought up playing good open and attacking football with most of the managers I have played under and that is what we want the young lads at Newcastle to be doing too. Entertaining football is what our fans want and I believe that's the way we should play.'

Finally AZ were winners in midweek beating Utrecht 2-1. Two first half strikes from Nourdin Boukhari won the game for our future opponents in the Dutch Cup.
