Daily Round Up - 27/02/2007

With Freddie Shepherd having hopefully employed some spoiling tactics by tapping up Jonathan Woodgate ahead of the Beasts match this Saturday, Smogs boss Gareth Southgate says he`s not that bovvered really:

"I can't stop people watching him and I can't put him away and lock him up until the summer, but I know that Jonathan is totally committed to what we're doing here and loving it. His pace, which allows us to hold a slightly higher defensive line, makes a big difference to us.'

That`s just great Gareth. Moving on Whitley Bay striker Lee Kerr is enjoying the bright lights of Little Benton, having been given a three day trial by Lee Clark.

Tinkering has also struck our impending fixtures list for next month, with Alkmaar away having being confirmed as Thursday 15th (rather than the Wednesday). This also impacts on the Charlton Premier League game, sending it scurrying to the Sunday 18th.

Meanwhile Shay Given has sort of semi-apologised for nicking Steve Harper`s place in the team. The Irish number one said: 'Steve has been fantastic and he will have been devastated not to play against Wigan. He's done very well, and he should take a lot of credit for that. Personally, I was itching to get back in the team, and it was a tough decision for the manager to make.'
