News Round Up - 24/02/07

Heading across the North Sea our next UEFA Cup opponents AZ Alkmaar were held 1-1 at home to Ajax. Maarten Martens (who comes up against Obafemi Martins…) scored for the home team after Kenny Perez had scored for the Dammers.

Confirmation was received from the club that Nicky Butt will miss the away game against Charlton after picking up his fifth booking of the season.

Our academy side had a weekend to forget, losing 3-2 away to Barnsley to slip to third in the table, although we do have two games in hand on Forest and one on the Mackems above us. Winning both would send us top again. Johnny Godsmark and Glenn Reay scored for us.

Finally one that seems to have snuck under the radar is the fact that, according to the Sunday papers, Kevin Bond has instructed his solicitors to take on the club for wrongful dismissal. Bond is also taking on the BBC after their comments about him in the Panorama programme about bungs in September 2006, along with implicating Harry Redknapp and Sam Allardyce. Bond was put on gardening leave by Freddie Shepherd after the programme was shown and his contract was terminated shortly afterwards.
