In a quite critical outburst by our number one Shay seems genuinely upset by the lack of composure shown in the final third. He also praised Wigan veteran keeper John Filan and their set piece delivery, which could be a thinly-veiled dig at how bad our own crosses were:
'We lashed it across the box, but there was no real chance of anyone getting on the end of it. Had we had a little bit more composure, it could have been different. We lost to Fulham a few weeks back, and now we've lost to Wigan. It's disappointing, because we want to push on up the league.
We really felt we had a good chance of doing that. I felt we should at least have got a draw from the game, maybe even three points on another day. In the first half we were the better team, but they got the goal and stood firm in the second half and got the three points.
I'm told John Filan is 37 as well. He had a very good game. He made a great save from the penalty, and another from Damien Duff when he was through one-on-one. He looked very solid all afternoon, and all credit to John for that. With the penalty it was a great save - any penalty save is a great save as far as I'm concerned. Nobby did hit it with plenty of power, but John got a very strong hand on it. On another day, had we gone 1-0 up, the game could have had a very different outlook.
We said before the game not to give away stupid free kicks. The guy's got a fantastic delivery from that side, and on the other side it's (Leighton) Baines. I knew what was coming, I just didn't get anywhere near it. It's just dipped between the bar and the post, and into the side netting. Sometimes as a goalkeeper you hold your hands up, and you've got to say it was a great finish.'
