Man Utd Afterthoughts
So the dust has settled a bit on what was otherwise a top class professional performance by Newcastle.
Many players seemed to go up a couple of notches and hopefully carry the commitment level for the rest of the season to achieve the minimum twelve points needed to allow Mike Ashley to trouser the premier league money again.
It would be wrong to focus on individuals in what was a truly whole team performance but then again, for people to improve, they need to know where.
For me, Ayoze Perez was lightweight and in desperate need still of bulking up. If he wants to progress his career then it's an absolute must as he gets pushed over, game after game easily.
Paul Dummett again defies the critics with another almost flawless display and Mo Diame adds another game where he impersonated a footballer again.
Martin Dubravka is a couple of steps up on what we have in the keeping department with a visible brain on him as he orders the defence around and is assured on his positioning. His hands are also strong and not of the bendy sort that Karl Darlow and co have. Maybe the local papers giving him a 10/10 is a bit over the top as we get confused with an able keeper with one having an out of this world performance.
These sort of performances are expected from top keepers and maybe we have found one, time will tell.
Seeing the game in the flesh, I chose Jamaal Lascelles as the man of the match along with Florian Lejeune. When watching it back on TV, Jonjo Shelvey came across better although things like positioning and commanding players around isn't witnessed on the box and I thought Shelvey ball watched on a number of occasions or was slow to switch on.
Not taking anything away from Shelvey's game, he was right up there but I came away from the game yesterday hoping we can emulate this commitment to get the four wins or so we need for safety but with worries that one or two of ours may be headed for selection for England and personally I dont want that for various reasons.
Lascelles if he was London based, would already be included in the call up group but like when Burnley had that Micheal Keane in a struggling Burnley side, they got a £30m fee when he moved and although Lascelles isn't linked with going anywhere, how long until a £35m+ figure starts to gnaw away at Ashley's thinking?
