Toon Defender Looks For Final Chance
When the January transfer window opens in a few weeks, it will be the fifth anniversary of Massidio Haidara signing for us.
Coming to us from Nancy of France for a reported £2m fee, he was bought with a bit of a glowing reputation as being one for the future as well as pressure the left back position.
To say Haidara has been unlucky with injuries is an understatement because since he was assaulted on the pitch by a dangerous Callum McManaman high tackle when he played for Wigan in the Spring following his move, he has picked up various other niggles.
It was a result of that infamous 'tackle' that got the rules changed because through one thing or another, no action was taken over what was an obvious red card.
Haidara played for Nancy more in his two and a half year stint than he has for us in the five years although he has the ability to challenge, his latest comeback sees him in the last chance saloon and maybe even so far past it considering he nearly moved on loan in the Summer just gone.
Speaking to our local paper, The Chronicle, he spoke of his hopes by saying:
I may have gone or I may have stayed last summer.
I had a deal with one team and it didn`t get done in the end. I was always happy to do that and come back.
If I had left I would have been happy too because I know I would have played more. Now I know I am here it is 100% focus on Newcastle.
