Careful What We Wish For
With takeover talk being the elephant in the room here at Newcastle for years, this season has seen it play many parts in a script that may not be written yet or if at all.
Usually we dismiss any sort of mention as public relation spiel with it's main task at distracting from something important at hand, like a transfer window or something else that's needed doing to better the club.
This time though and with very little real proof or evidence, things just seem different.
Talk in the pubs, the street and social media has extended now into unthinkable things into us being warned to be careful what we wish for as if there is a risk of bad owners ahead.
There is no risk whatsoever in my opinion.
Ive read comments on various forms of media and witnessed at first hand the effect a Mike Ashley owned club has had on the fan base. With the soul stripped away and people who lived and breathed the club then turning on their own for continuing to do so, just one reason in a hundred to wish for change.
In our current form and just forgetting about Rafa Benitez for five minutes, we are still Sports Direct United in all but name, such has been the lack of ambition involved in the football club.
Basically the comparison is for someone locked in a dungeon with their arms and legs cut back to the stumps but worrying because their 'rescuer' may do worse. Personally I think it's impossible.
It may be jumping the gun massively when we dont even know for certain whether we're going to be subject to a bid or even if a price can be agreed on the terms that Ashley wants to sell under but worrying who could be the potential purchaser is the least of our problems.
Hopefully we get the chance to debate someone else getting the chance to run the club very soon as it's long overdue.
