Newcastle In Positive Move

Newcastle In Positive Move

I think we've made our feelings loud and clear over the years when things haven't been so great, moreso under the ownership of a certain Mike Ashley.

However with things seemingly getting better with Rafa Benitez in the manager's seat, the positives keep mounting up.

Whether we believe there is any truth in Ashley wanting to sell his cash cow or not, what cant be denied is the recent good things that have happened that are putting the club in a better light as if to make it look better than it was.

Today added to that feeling with Newcastle announcing that they are formally launching a Newcastle United Former Players Association with the launch coming tonight at a 125 year dinner event.

The making of this association is long overdue for me as past players should be recognised by their former clubs and remembered for their efforts in getting the team where it is.

Obviously we have a long list of former players like anyone else but some of the players we have had were world class and in the days where talking about mental health and things like depression, having the opportunity to get together for events can only do good when the playing days have gone.

Newcastle have even pinpointed this as a big reason for doing this as they said on their official website:

At its heart, the association will have two key principles; firstly to ensure players feel forever connected to - and acknowledged by - the football club and secondly to offer support wherever and whenever they need it, signposting them to a range of welfare and support services.

Speaking about the new idea, current managing director, Lee Charnley said this:

The Former Players Association is a fitting legacy for the club's 125th Anniversary year. It will recognise and support every player that has contributed to the history of Newcastle United.

We are committed to ensuring its success and, through our Foundation, to providing the resources it will need to grow and develop long into the future.
