Striker Not A Concern For Rafa
Much has been said and written about the striking position at Newcastle United with it coming increasingly under the microscope.
On the face of it, the return of our three main strikers isn't good at all with the output not really being up to the standard of achieving survival in the premier league it would seem.
Judging the performances by the statistics, Joselu has 2 goals in 8 appearances, second choice but injury prone Dwight Gayle has no goals in his 2 games and 6 stints off the bench whilst out of favour Aleksandar Mitrovic has a couple of goals in considerably less playing time than the others.
Whilst everyone is banging on about Mitrovic needing another chance, one thing needs to be remembered in that the manager, Rafa Benitez, needs to be fully trusted and he is by many in that he is making the right decisions in which players to pick.
He has a system that works but the bigger issue is getting players to be able to play the system right.
The system can only work if all cogs are moving in the right direction but it can all grind to a halt if one of them decides to work slower or not at all. It's all about trusting the individuals to do a team job.
If or when Rafa is allowed to spend money on better quality players to work the system then the game plan should work at a smoother pace with more reward but at present im guessing that the player picked up front will be one that is trusted the most to do a job for the team.
It doesn't take a genius to work out that Rafa doesn't rate Mitrovic to be a team player but for tomorrow's game at home to Bournemouth, we'll see if this is temporarily put to one side.
