Newcastle Complete Excellent Midfielder Deal

Newcastle Complete Excellent Midfielder Deal

Newcastle confirmed today that they have 'exercised an option' in the Mikel Merino loan deal and made him a permanent signing.

The 21 year old Spanish U21 international signing a five year contract to be tied up initially until the 2022/23 season or if Mike Ashley decides to cash in earlier.

Merino came here in the Summer as a virtual unknown at a time where we maybe all looked for proven quality players but what he has shown in his short time here is that he has the potential to be a real star.

He has vision, pace, he can switch play or see things others cant with a great maturity and has slotted in a new country like he's been here for years. Luckily for us, we saw the potential and swooped.

He's easily our best player in the squad at present and has been overlooked by the many so called experts that you see clogging up the football shows. Hopefully we keep him when they cotton on to the fact that we've got a gem here.

Speaking of the move, manager Rafa Benitez was quoted on the official NUFC website as saying:

I`m really pleased we have been able to bring Mikel to the club permanently. He has played very well since he joined us. He has settled in quickly, has a lot of quality on the ball and is keen to learn, that is a crucial part of his future development.

Merino added his bit by saying:

I`m really happy to be here, and for this part of the contract to finally be official. I`m happy to be here for five more years and I hope to keep playing for this club and to give good things to all the people and the club.
