Rafa Expects More From Ritchie
After a more than satisfactory start to this season's premier league campaign, there is no time for praise from Rafa Benitez.
He's right in saying nothing has been decided yet and we have to take each game as it come although the majority of fans are realistic enough to have bought into this philosophy anyway.
Matt Ritchie has been making the news a bit for his performances with him right up near the top of assists and crossing accuracy must surely be up there also as he meets his target time after time although Rafa Benitez is expecting more.
Like Steven Gerrard has said in the past, Rafa isn't the type of manager to praise and compliment someone when on top of their game. He is someone that wants to keep pushing players to do better and maybe craving for that recognition moment.
Gerrard said that he didn't like it back in the day but on reflection now, it made him a better player as he always felt as if he was trying and on that score, Rafa is right.
Speaking about Ritchie in his pre-match press conference the other day, Rafa said:
We saw him every day, the passion, the intensity and how competitive he is.
We saw all that in his first season here, so it`s no surprise now because we`ve seen him every day, playing and training with the same passion, the same commitment and he has quality.
He`s a player who has confidence in himself, he knows his strengths and he plays on his strengths, so I think he`s someone who is doing well but still, believe me, he can do better.
