Krul Ends Newcastle Association
Tim Krul saw a 12 year association with us end today as he saw his loan move turn into a permanent transfer.
Krul was on a season long loan to Brighton and after playing his first game for them last night, it was revealed today that his move is not a loan any more.
In a slightly strange way, Krul was never really coming back anyway and the ability of this deal must have meant there was a clause in the loan that saw this scenario if he played a match for Brighton.
With Krul in the last year of his contract here, I can't understand why Brighton would even need to pay us a fee when they had him on loan anyway and with an initial one year contract spoken of with them, it adds more fuel to the strangeness.
Regardless, Krul was a good servant for us and had been since his debut as a teenager at Palermo when the likes of Shay Gven and Steve Harper were cattled back in the day. His patience in moving up the ranks eventually rewarded with the number 1 shirt.
Krul would probably be still wearing that shirt if injury for Holland hadn't saw him miss a big chunk of time before a dislocated shoulder added to his woes when with us.
His fall from grace seemed to be complete when he failed to shine when on loan in Holland in the past year before Rafa Benitez made it clear he just wasn't up to standard anymore and his Newcastle career over.
A good keeper in his time with him not quite reaching the potential he seemed to have and it's debatable whether he can reach the heights again although he leaves here under no great shame and no regrets from anyone.
I hope he comes good again although with him being available to play against us when we play Brighton next, I dont think he'll get the nod to prove us wrong just yet.
