Rafa Has Trust In His General

Rafa Has Trust In His General

Rafa Benitez is big on trust. When you look at the qualities of a footballer, he regards it as high as ability and all the other things that make a brilliant footballer.

His squads over the years have shown the signs with everybody second guessing his teams every week and most being wrong.

Trust will be the biggest reason as to why Rafa has persisted with Jamaal Lascelles as club captain as it was announced earlier.

When we've had makeshift skippers over the past few years with the likes of Fabricio Coloccini just not quite getting it all together in the dressing room, it was good to see such a young lad in Lascelles question all the senior players when they seemed to down tools under other managers.

Lascelles is still learning but has many leadership qualities already.

Another massive factor is that Lascelles played through the injury barrier last season to help the team to the title and is the model that a captain should work towards.

Rafa was quoted on the official NUFC website talking about it and said:

I'm happy to keep Jamaal as captain because he was good last season.

When you have new players, it's important to have someone who knows what it means to be the captain of this team, what it means to help the others to settle in and what it means to push everyone to give everything in every game.

I think he was great last season and hopefully he will continue to be a good captain for us in the future.
