United Transfers In Focus
Whilst the days go by, names get added by the bucket load as to who Newcastle United are targeting for transfer. It's safe to say that it's an easy job just throwing a name out there with the media or rumour mongers doing just that.
Aside from the usual click bait rhetoric, it's main job is to create a non-existent story into a story. It's 21st century life.
Since promotion, the squad here has been deemed as not good enough for the premier league which in itself is loaded issue because we've just came out of the championship and the transfer window hasn't opened yet but it's common knowledge to know that we have to strengthen.
With Rafa Benitez saying several times that he wants a project here, it's also quite certain that to have a project that we need to build slowly and properly. That will entail a slow growth of quality players.
The mentality that is needed in a squad of the various tasks needed to compete in the game of football are already there, so the balance in the recruitment of players will be done over a few transfer windows in my opinion, so these lists that must have around 50 players on that we have been linked with will prove to be bull like in our past.
Without mentioning the amount of players needed although in my opinion I think it'll be between 6 and 8, we can look at windows past and ask for reasons why these wont be targets again.
Yes, we can rule out players that may have been earmarked to do a certain job in a certain lower division but the majority were not.
In the past few years, these players have been supposedly close to signing or are linked all the time:
Anthony Knockaert, Andros Townsend, Bas Dost, Kevin Gameiro, James McCarthy, Andy Carroll, Hatem Ben Arfa and many more.
Without really going into the reasons too much, the former Newcastle players linked can be safely written off as a media attempt to get engagement with the sentimental side of fans although in the case of Townsend, he walked away from the group when he didn't have the stomach for a promotion attempt in order to stay with a team that only survived in the closing fortnight of the premier league season themselves.
Knockaert was many people's championship player of the season and looks like he may be able to step up in level. Regardless whether Brighton can keep him or not, it's interesting that as yet there's no link here again.
Bas Dost gets mentioned every window and again, whether the media has forgotten about what they've written in the past, he's so far not been mentioned either. The same applies with Gameiro.
Whilst the alleged transfer targets grow, James McCarthy is another that hasn't been talked of when in the last window a deal was allegedly close and then a loan deal was mooted.
Just goes to show that we all have no real clue as to what will happen as the amount of red herrings are put out there by agents, media and the rumour mongers.
