Midfielder Earmarked For Move
It's an easy story to write in truth and everyone will be at it, a click baiter's dream.
A player who we have been linked with before then seeing a move to the premier league breakdown with his current club with a loss in the play offs. As is the case with Fulham's Tom Cairney.
The Chronicle and other local media, reported earlier in the season that we were interested in buying Cairney and were alleged to be valuing him at around £10m. The same reports said that the £20m asking price put us off.
Before this link, I can honestly say that he was a player I knew next to nothing about and certainly not one that had caught my eye at any point in his career but since then, ive been watching him closer.
A player with premier league experience in his younger days with Hull, he looks like he will make the step up in grade from the championship with his ability to pass and move at speed.
His eye for goal is also not missed with him scoring against us at St James' when Fulham beat us 3-1 with him getting 12 league goals in total this season.
Whilst the Fulham boss was pretty adamant in the after match press conference last night in which he said he was keeping his best players, an offer from a premier league club would surely tempt Cairney to try to force a move.
The 26 year old is said to have a Newcastle supporting Granddad and with him representing Scotland at national level, there's more than enough reason to move closer to 'home'
Obviously this will be one of many Summer sagas but it'll be an interesting one.
