'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Carr Has Driving Ambition.

Carr is hoping that his decision to retire from the International scene will help extend his club career and has set his sights on winning some silverware.

The Newcastle full-back told the official site that he is calling an end to his Republic of Ireland playing days after the team failed to qualify for Europe. Carr has 41 International caps but is now focussing on winning things at the domestic level.

He told nufc.co.uk: 'You have to be honest with yourself, and in four years I think I'd have been too old to play in the World Cup the next time it comes around. As I said at the weekend, I've made my decision and there's no going back for me now. Hopefully the decision to pack in the international games will help me at club level. That is the aim, anyway.'

Fighting talk: 'I want to concentrate on winning things with Newcastle. I've not done much in my career in terms of winning things. I enjoyed the international games and of course it was an honour to play for my country. But I've only won one cup, that was the League Cup with Spurs.

Concluding: 'It would be nice to have some medals at the end of my career to go with the caps I've picked up. That's what I'm concentrating on now.'

Lets hope Carrs drive (look, if a joke is worth doing, it is worth doing over and over!!) and ambition is mirrored by the rest of the squad.
