Villa Back In For Milner

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed he will be back on the phone trying to sign James Milner in January.

Since Milner's transfer to Villa Park was stopped just minutes before the winger put pen to paper, Glenn Roeder has made no secret of the fact he sees the player signing a new contract at St James' Park ... and is NOT heading to the Midlands.

O'Neill: 'We will be striving in January to try to improve the team. We do need to strengthen if you are going to compete. The chairman (Randy Lerner) wants to do that.

'I don't think he wants Villa to be under-achievers and wants to have a go.

'I'm not so sure at the moment if we are in the market for the very best players in the world. That's a different issue. But are we going to try to improve the team? Absolutely. And yes, James Milner has been a target of mine in the past and I would like to see him at Villa Park.'

Not over concerned whether we buy him or not to be honest. But the way he was treated by you lot (both FS and GR) in the summer was diabolical and for that reason I wouldn't be surprised if he forced the issue.

Great win for you Yesterday, Shay was missed, like MCM I am not too fussed either. That being said he did a good job for us and I have no problem if he does sign. He seems to have settled in well again at Newcastle so maybe he will be staying.
