'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Most Ridiculous Competition Ever!

If ever you want confirmation that those in charge of UEFA have a collective IQ of less than that of gerbil ... you only have to look at the current two competitions.

Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and all Rangers secured four berths for British teams in the knockout phase of the UEFA Cup on Thursday. And good on them.

But Newcastle took the long route to glory, playing in the Inter Toto Cup. No-one can WIN the Inter Toto Cup, because the competition doesn't even have a CUP!

And now we are close to who will qualify for the last 32 of the UEFA Cup, we are at the stage where the 'failures' of the Champions League are given a THIRD chance to win something.

Eight teams from the Champions League will also go into the draw.

At first those qualifiers for the Champions League were told 'if you fail you will go into the UEFA Cup'. Those who qualified had a crack at the Champions League. Now eight who fail ... go into the UEFA Cup.

'Bizarre' isn't the word for it. Ridiculous is!

It's not fair is it Andy we've all earned the right to be in the tournament (Newcastle went that extra mile!) yet teams who didn't even get into the tournament (sure they've earned their right to a "bigger one") are given chance after chance to get in and win! It makes a mockery of the UEFA Cup if an eventual winner wouldn't have even been in it!

Its only the 3rd team from each Champions League group goes through. The reason they did it I believe was to try to keep all the teams in each group with something to play for as long as possible in what is their premier tournament. The teams looking most like to go in are Lille/AEK, CSKA, Benfica, Steaua, Shakthar, Bordeaux, Sporting Lisbon, and Werder Bremen/Barcelona. Aside from the either Werder or Barca the others don't seem too challenging though CSKA moscow look ok

who cares this tournament provides extra games hence extra money, the chance to win a cup and has some decent european teams in it so shut up n stop complaining

So you are telling me paulr3062 that if one of the teams that shouldn't even be in the UEFA Cup tournament knocks out Newcastle in the next round you'd be happy?
