Shola Ameobi says Newcastle United will turn their season round in his absence.
The 25-year-old striker has fought through the pain barrier in Newcastle's hour of need, but he has called time on the season and flies to Colorado for a long-awaited operation on his hip.
Ameobi: 'We just have to keep on plugging away. Every team goes through periods like this where they struggle to win games.
'Everyone in that dressing room's doing everything they can, but when you're not winning games your heads go down.
'We haven't won in quite a number of games, and that can get you down. As men, we have to go out there and change it.
'We've got three-quarters of the season to go, and we've got to stay positive. We know we're capable of putting a run of wins together, we just have to stay positive and hope our luck will change.'
