Roeder: 'Watford Tie To Blame'

Glenn Roeder says the UEFA Cup and Carling cup ties are the reason for the poor league results, and says the extra-time on Tuesday took it out of his squad.

But the same goes for Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, who are all battling on three fonts at the moment - in Europe, Carling Cup and Premiership.

Roeder: 'We started off slowly, but that was because we had played a tough game in midweek that went into extra time. They had the better opportunities and they put us under a lot of pressure. We were hanging onto their coat tails for the first 45 minutes and we were happy at half time to be 0-0.

'We had to be better in the second half and we were. Some of the passing was great, we put them on the back foot and finished the game like the Newcastle that I know and how I want us to play.

'Normally a point away from home is the target, but we were so close to getting all three near the end there.

'We didn't want the final whistle to come, because if there was going to be a winner at that stage it was going to be us.'

at this level in this day and age...that is the game..the players are paid a lot of money and they should be fit enough to cope with this I believe..many other clubs do..not even at this higher level....

am sick of roeder coming out and making announcements about everything that happens, i.e oba martins being urged by the nigerian fa to quit the toon, if there is anything to tell s then do it but dont come out with 4 or 5 statements every day, as good as it is to know what is going on all u appear to be doing is making excuses
