A Win But Must Do Better

Three games played and still no Newcastle player has put the ball in the back of the net, although the history books will show otherwise.

Yes, the title is correct and we did win in the league cup second round against Gillingham but it was courtesy of an ex Mackem putting the ball into his own net.

Rumours doing the rounds that he did it to annoy Mike Ashley and help us progress further in the competition and threaten our premier league survival chances have no substance but joking aside, it seems as plausible a scenario as any as we never really looked like scoring.

The fact that were had a strong starting line-up, just makes things worse for Alan Pardew and surely his lack of ability will come unstuck this season with the sack as he's way out of his depth here. Although progressing to the next round was always gonna brush any frailties under the carpet.

Overall though, Gillingham didn't look like scoring either and we edged this game on points to lie within four ties of Wembley with a hard fought 1-0 win.

We now await details of Wednesday nights Third Round draw, which takes place following live coverage of the Bradford v Leeds game on Sky TV.
