de Jong Expected To Make Debut

A training session stands between Siem de Jong starting against Aston Villa on Saturday dinner time or just being on the bench.

The Dutch international midfielder, who impressed so much during the early part of pre season has shook off his calf strain to be included in the squad that travels to Birmingham.

With the added pressure of being predicted to be one of Alan Pardew's best ever signings for us, the former Ajax player has been warned that his place isn't guaranteed.

Pardew said:

He is keen to start but we will have to wait and see if he is ready.

Siem`s enthusiasm is good and his CV and quality speak for themselves. Hopefully, he can produce a great season for us.

But he has to earn the right to play. Whether he is 100 per cent for the weekend, I am not sure.

Pardew previously compared de Jong to being as close to Teddy Sheringham as you can get and will play the forward in a similar position.

The inclusion of de Jong would be a timely boost considering we had no shots on target last week and as our other marquee signing of the Summer, give the fans that extra boost needed after a touching week with the funeral of Liam Sweeney held today.
