Shearer Highlights Lack Of Toon Ambition
In an interview in the Mirror, Alan Shearer accused Newcastle United of lacking ambition, although he changed direction with an urge for the club to try to win a trophy.
He also made a point in which he was so embarrassed with what was going on in the later part of last season that he couldn't even give tickets away for some of our games because we were that bad.
Shearer was quoted as saying:
For the first time last year in our box, which I share with another nine guys, there was a game where we couldn`t give a ticket away.
There were only three or four who wanted to go. I hope that doesn`t happen again this season.
It's well documented that we kick off later against Manchester City and although we have pretty much no chance to take anything from the game, we have to be professional enough to try to.
We know the club's unofficial target is between 8th - 12th but to keep everyone happy, we have to go all out for cup glory. Keeping the unofficial target as the be all and end all is only going to end in mutiny as it's boring as sin.
Mike Ashley might be in this to make a quiet profit but football fans are in it for football gain.
Shearer added that we should be targetting top 6 by saying:
That should be the ambition. I am sure it is the ambition. But ambition and achievement are two different things.
