Low Key Friendly To End Pre-Season

Low Key Friendly To End Pre-Season

A Newcastle United home friendly would at one time attract a massive attendance due to it being the only chance that many would get to see their heroes but times have changed under Mike Ashley.

With only the lower bowl area of the stadium open for sale or in other words, the areas that will be shown on any TV coverage, it's looking like a crowd of 15,000 - 20,000 at best, which is a far cry from the pre-Ashley days.

A lot have their eye on the ball as to the bigger picture here nowadays in that Sports Direct profits or advertising that brand come before ambitions of the club, although kids will always want to see the big name players from rival clubs in the flesh, so numbers should swell for the league games.

As it is though, this will be our eighth pre-season game and in it we welcome Spanish side Real Sociedad for a 1.30pm kick off.

Pay turnstyles are in operation to try to swell the gate, such is the need, although with a small price of £15 for adults and a fiver for kids, it's not a bad way to spend a couple of hours or so in what was once our temple

We should have a full compliment of first teamers in action tomorrow apart from Cheick Tiote who is still recovering from a hamstring pull and the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa and Jonas Gutierrez who are currently in the huffy bed.

There's speculation that we will be wearing yet another limited edition shirt for this game but as yet, we don't know anything more.
