Ben Arfa Saga Is A Real Shame

Hidden behind rumours, unconfirmed truths and downright lies is the moral to a very sad story about Hatem Ben Arfa.

A story that looks like ending with the Frenchman moving on to unfamiliar territory with the latest chapter being a story that he is having a row with Newcastle officials over his weight.

A row that is on top of other unconfirmed tales of not pulling his weight on the pitch(no pun intended) or his fellow professionals having a dislike to his laid back style.

There looks to be no resolution to this saga as Ben Arfa is expected to stay at home whilst the rest of the squad travel to New Zealand on a mini tour next week and train with the kids.

Media reports from France claiming that the club is trying to fine him 1,500 because he was 1.5kg overweight when he reported back to work after the summer break, don't help, especially when Ben Arfa reckons that he's added muscle to his frame over the Summer weeks.

There was talk this morning that Newcastle accepted a bid from an unnamed Ukrainian club but Ben Arfa turned it down. The recent story of unrest in Ukraine due to the plane 'crash' makes it unlikely that it would be followed up or accepted anyway.

On his day though, Ben Arfa is world class and it would be in everyone's best interests if we could somehow resolve all the issues and move forward. It's very unlikely to happen but stranger things have happened.
