Parker Fears Roeder Record
Scott Parker has taken the captain's armband off Alan Shearer, and suddenly he is being compared to Glenn Roeder, for all the wrong reasons.
Roeder was the last Newcastle skipper to experience relegation, when the Magpies crashed out of the top flight in 1989. And with Roeder's record of relegation with West Ham and Watford as manager, the alarm bells are ringing.
Are we facing a winter fighting off the drop? Parker believes it could be the case.
Parker: 'The performances are certainly there but the points aren't. It's a bit of a worry but we keep going. That was the best we have played for a long while and I include last year in that.
'If the game had ended up 4-0 everyone would have said 'deservedly so' but that's the way it is going for us at the moment.
'Are we in a relegation fight? Yes of course, that is the reality. We are near the bottom of the table and it isn't looking good. We could go through the season saying we are playing well and not winning games, but that wouldn't keep us in the league.
'We are not going to kid ourselves, we are in the results business.'
