'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Smog Who Never Got Shearer's Shirt

Graeme Souness made several attempts to sign Yakubu Aiyegbeni for Newcastle to replace Alan Shearer.

But, for whatever reason, he ended up at the Riverside. However, he says the man United eventually bought to wear the Toon number nine, Obafemi Martins, will soon be a force in the Premiership.

They both play for Nigeria as strike partners and often keep in touch.

Yakubu: 'I love to see Oba do his somersaults. That is an incredible celebration and I hope to see it many times but not against us.

'When you are a new player and come to the Premiership, it can take you time to settle in. It may be three months, it may even take one full season but I believe he will do well at Newcastle because he is so quick and strong.

'He has the game to score a lot of goals but they must be patient. It is up to everyone else to give him the confidence to do what he does best.'
