It may be December 2013 but you could change the month to June. You can even change the year for either month as well, at least under the Mike Ashley tenureship.

That's right, it's the era of bullshit transfer stories and in regards to our club, we have ours printed in advance and just do what ive mentoned in the previous paragraph plus rub out a name and insert a new one.

Hot on the heels of the usual transfer contradiction, we have the regular statement wheeled out by the manager and in our case Alan Pardew.

The pattern is always the same.

A window closes with disappointment and we get talk of the next window being fully prepared for with targets lined up and willing to sign.

As the window gets closer, the stories change into the squad being fine and no incomings are expected before a list getting wheeled out and the manager contradicting himself with words of transfer intent.

Speaking on Sky today, Pardew basically says we're strong enough to challenge for the champions league by stating.

'We have got a good team. We have got good back-up. We are stronger than we were two years ago, when we finished fifth, in terms of depth.

A lot would disagree.

We've only one decent striker, Remy and he's a loan player. Shola and Papiss Cisse have flattered to decieve.

We also need back up in defence because the form of Mike Williamson wont last and we're due an injury to someone.

Pardew added his usual coded speak by stating that we may or may not buy someone.

'Those are the sort of calls we are making. If we think there's an opportunity arisen - and there can be in January at times - then we will grasp it; if not, we won't.

That's that cleared up then.
