Toon Wingers Face Disaster

Newcastle United's flying wingers Alan O'Brien and Damien Duff experienced a humiliating evening in Nicosia, as Shay Given-less Republic of Ireland crashed 5-2 to Cyrpus.

Manager Steve Staunton's side were hit by injuries, but the result shocked even Cyprus supporters. O'Brien was a 70 minute substitute.

Prior to the game he said: 'It would be a dream come true to play in the World Cup or the European Championships, but I just want to keep working hard. When it comes to playing for your country you want to play as much as possible.'

I think the republic are going to seriously struggle to qualify , as will wales in that group , Northern Ireland and Scotland and ENgland have a much greater chance ... N Ireland in the euros .. surely not ;-)

Scotland have it on a plate for them. Watch 'em throw it away, though I hope they don't.
