A contrasting game of two halves today.
The first half was absolutely abysmal with our only shot on target, a blocked effort by Coloccini.
The reason why the first half was so poor was the continued staticness of our play. It leaves you wondering what the hell we practise in training as the most basic of things to do on a football pitch, just don't happen.
The fact that we keep leaving 7 or 8 bodies in our half when on the attack or the lack of urgency in wanting to get into the opposition box. Also not giving a player on the ball an angle or option to pass to was a major heed batter of mine.
A thought I had is that Pardew has no affiliation to us as a club and was playing us at 40% of our ability in order to try to get new signings or just have us so laboured to preserve energy for a second half assault. Either way, it's just baffling that it doesn't seem to be witnessed by the coaching staff.
The biggest cheer of the game up until the second half was the applause given for Franco Baresi or the Wonga balls.
After witnessing the second half, Shola Ameobi should never be allowed to wear the shirt again because his statue-ness persona is a disgrace because Loic Remy in his 15 minutes or so, showed exactly how to play the role and the effect it has on team mates.
Prior to the subs, I was moaning on in the crowd that I knew what subs to make and for which personnel and for the first time ever, Pardew did exactly as i said.
I said remove Shola for Remy. check.
Remove the pointless Anita, who was playing in a position that wasn't needed for this game and he was ineffective as a result, for Cabaye. check.
This happened and changed the game dramatically with Remy showing in his 25% fit state, just what a quality player he is, doing things that proper strikers do, like run with the ball, beat a man, pass successfully and make space.
Cabaye did well considering the shite. he was booed by some and clapped by others but there was no nastiness and any booing wasn't prolonged. if he stays, he'll be loved as before.
Krul. Not too much to do but when needed he was alert and made a great save from a freekick in the second half. 7
Debuchy. Easily his best game for us and nearly scored as well. Was dominant in the air and showed a great desire. 7
Colo. The usual rock. Got forward quite a bit more in the second half and looked our best bet for a goal for a bit. 8
Mbiwa. Composed with no problems. Works better with Colo than any other partner. 7
Santon. Did well. I still see him as a future midfielder mind. 7
Sissoko. A brilliant second half. full of pace, power and everything a box to box midfielder needs. A bit static in the first half. 8
Anita. The complete opposite of last week. ineffective and only really able to pass the ball sideways or backwards. 6
Marveaux. looked unfit to me but did ok. 6
Ben Arfa. Kept trying and trying again. Not afraid to keep trying things that had failed at times and was rewarded with an excellent goal 8
Shola. Abysmal. lazy. stealing a living. 3
Cisse. With Shola was frustrating and quite static but with Remy was a different beast. full of pace, power and determination. Looking forward to seeing the pairing. 7
All three subs made a massive difference with Remy having a great cameo. Gouffran was excellent as well. Cabaye showed that he will be a big miss.
The atmosphere was as flat in that first half as i remember but the crowd lifted the team in the second and it was more like normal.
The yellow card for Ben Arfa celebrating with the disabled fans and those in the paddock behind a bit of a joke mind considering the pressure of the moment but that aside, a decent result.
