'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Given Hopes For Quick Fix

Shay Given began light training this week, but will be out of action for some time.

However, he insists the clash with West Ham striker Marlon Harewood (a Newcastle target in the summer) will not change his approach to the game.

Given: 'For a goalkeeper, it is part and parcel. You just expect to get hit - that is just one of those things. I have had a few injuries before and I have come back from them.

'It is part and parcel of being a goalkeeper. I have seen many a goalkeeper down through the years with cuts and bruises and scars from diving at centre-forwards' feet.

'I am only 30, which in goalkeeping terms is quite young, so I am sure I will have plenty more knocks in the future as well. You have to forget about it and be positive in everything you do, and I am sure there will not be any problems.

'I hope to be back by the end of October - touch wood - so that's the plan. I've been on the bike and just doing some gentle walking on the treadmill to just try and get it going again.

'To be honest, it feels really good and I feel really positive about the whole thing and looking forward to be back.'
