New Defence A Blessing?

The return from injury of Steven Taylor could not have been timed better, now the Magpies face the daunting trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

Newcastle have not won a league game at Old Trafford since February 1972 and that famous Stew Barrowclogh goal, but the fact that they are heading to Manchester with both Titus Bramble and Celestine Babayaro suspended could be a blessing ... rather than a disaster.

20-year-old Taylor will partner Craig Moore, and they could shore up a defence which has struggled to keep a clean sheet so far this season.

Roeder: 'I am very, very pleased to have him back. I am looking forward to working with him a lot now that he is fully fit. He is a central defender with huge promise. He has already been selected for England at Under-21 level.

'Unfortunately, the last time he was with them, he came back injured. If he goes away with them again next week, fingers crossed this time he comes back fully fit and can have an excellent season at Newcastle.

'He is full of promise and, especially being a local lad as well, the supporters have taken to him. There are only good times ahead for Steven Taylor.'

glad to see him back he is an outstanding defender and with him and the experience of moore beside him we will not have as dodgy a defence, but we still need a new left back and a new centre back to sort out the defence
