NUFC In Portugal To Face Benfica

NUFC In Portugal To Face Benfica

The stars of Newcastle United touched down earlier in Portugal to prepare for Thursday night's Europa League Quarter Final 1st leg against the Primeira Liga leaders, Benfica.

The Lisbon based team are currently four points clear of their domestic league and we face them hot on the heels after a 6-1 win over what was 6th placed Rio Ave.

A nineteen man squad was announced which included the name of our first choice goalkeeper Tim Krul as well as Davide Santon after a small injury lay off.

Mike Williamson also sees himself involved and he may yet get a place in the starting line up considering the task we face in preserving our Premier League status with games against Fulham and the unwashed, either side of the two legs.

The full squad: Tim Krul, Rob Elliot, Davide Santon, Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, James Perch, Vurnon Anita, Gael Bigirimana, Yohan Cabaye, Dan Gosling, Jonas Gutierrez, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Moussa Sissoko, Shola Ameobi, Adam Campbell, Papiss Cisse.
