Anzhi Awaits The Magpies

Following our excellent win in the Ukraine tonight, we find ourselves paired with Russian giants Anzhi Makhachkala in the round of 16.

Giants by fortune rather than achievement, all thanks to billionaire Suleyman Kerimov who purchased the club in 2011 and has bankrolled them ever since, funding world record salaries amongst other things.

A side managed by Guus Hiddink that contains the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Ewerthon, Yuri Zhirkov and Lassana Diarra, so they wont be pushovers.

We progressed tonight thanks to a Shola Ameobi penalty in the second half of the game, although in fairness, we were the much better side over the two legs.

The first leg of the round of 16 tie vs Anji is on the 7th March in the Dynamo Stadium, Makhachkala, Russia and the return, the following week at good old St James' Park.
