'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United In Sussoko Swoop

Friday came and with it another French Signing, this time Moussa Sissoko.

He arrives at St James' Park on a six and a half year deal for an undisclosed figure believed to be £2 million. Either way, that's a bargain.

The energetic box to box midfielder adds extra competition to the middle of the pitch and gives us more competitiveness in the closing stages of the season, where quality will count.

Sissoko will wear the number seven shirt, last worn by Joey Barton and hopefully get it remembered for all the right reasons.

Arriving from Toulouse, he played 218 games and scored 23 goals in his time there. Also gaining six full French international caps with the last of these in October gone.

Alan Pardew was particularly pleased with the signing of Sissoko.

'He will bring drive and energy to the squad, he is a winner and that's why I'm especially pleased to have him with us.

'What all our signings this window bring is essential competition for places and that is great for the remainder of the season.'

If he has the same impact as Rob Lee did when he arrived then we have a gem. Nothing more, nothing less.
