Well, that's another saga put to bed and yet again we find ourselves coming home with empty hands.
As fans, we go through the mill more than most with this latest transfer story, the camel that threatens to break the back of many.
It's well known that our club has loyal fans but a combination of the way in which our club is run, coupled with the way that football has gone is threatening a generation to turn their backs on the game altogether.
The game is supposedly run on a fairer scale now with the introduction of the F.F.P rules or Financial Fair Play for those that don't know, but time and time again, our club is gazumped by minnows all willing to splash the cash.
Cash they aren't supposed to be able to spend I may add.
We have the third biggest gate in England, European football and a good corporate wedge but we wouldn't compete with QPR for a player that may or may not have been the missing piece to our attack.
The obvious question and answer will be financially based but my personal wording would be 'wont' rather than 'cant'
It's this policy that is damaging the club the most as we have an owner who wants to run us by the rules. WHY?, I may ask.
He doesn't speak to the fans, although neither does our chairman, so we don't know their plans for us and by keeping quiet, it builds up an air of speculation to any hidden agendas which again is damaging to fan morale.
The fans built the club into what it is from 1892 onwards and it shouldn't be forgotten. Ignoring or letting the biggest single commodity of the club suffer is plain ignorant and should be addressed.
We need signings, not massive wages on average players but decent players, who have to be paid the going rate or else it's the Championship for us.
A couple of centre backs, a striker or two and a midfielder would be a good start. We've had plenty of time to know this but time is running out with just sixteen days to go.
Tick, tick, tick...............
Tyneside awaits.
