It's just under six weeks until the dust can be blown off wor Mike's cheque book but there's no real evidence that he'll be writing any out.
The need for new numbers is even blatantly obvious to the blind but talk of doing so has been on the back burner for a while with the only mention of doing so being met with calls of strengthening from within.
Whilst i don't debate that some of our kids are great prospects of the future, the constant filling up of the bench with them doesn't exactly instill confidence or give us a boost when a change is needed in a game, with comments from Alan Pardew after the Swansea game referring to our lack of experience costing us.
So to say it's a contradictory time is stating the obvious.
Even the media are getting in on the act with Sky Sports and various other media outlets, somehow taking some random comments and turning them into a story of definite signings.
For example, Alan Pardew said this earlier 'The managing director and the owner are very conscious of where we are and we are trying to make sure that we look at the period and events leading up to the next window, and we will react from there.'
Answering the comments made, I would personally hope that the club know where we are and the desperate need to strengthen the areas that we've been lacking in for a couple of years at least.
We desperately need an experienced quality central defender as cover or to be able to help us rotate more when the games come thick and fast as Mike Williamson just isn't the standard expected to be playing in a team that finished 5th in my opinion plus right back has to be addressed once and for all.
Either switch Davide Santon over there and buy a left back or just go for the original right back we sought after for so long, as it will tick more than one box as well as keep the Cabaye household happy.
As ever, it'll be an exciting time for all but lets hope there's some common sense for once instead of trying to save a penny here or there.
