Shearer v Keane - Will It Happen?
Roy Keane has joined Sunderland and obviously his number one priority is getting his shell-shocked troops into the Premiership to face bitter rivals Newcastle United.
I'll never forget the day we went to the City Ground to play Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup replay. Forest won 3-0, Keane scored and ran to the Toon end (who had out-chanted the the home fans despite the score) and made a gesture, shouting '**** you Geordie *******!'
Since then we have had the classic Shearer/Keane battles that have seen the then Man Utd midfielder walk the walk at St James' Park.
He swung a punch at Shearer when the GOALden Boy called him a prat. But Shearer saw the hay-maker and dodged it. A big regret to Keane, who said in his book 'I wish I'd connected'.
But Shearer was better than him then, and when the Geordie legend DOES take over at Newcastle, he'll be a better manager too.
Niall Quinn has got himself a passionate man - no doubt - but a man who has walked out of more situations than I can care to remember. He is a quitter! Ask his previous clubs ... ask his country.
Will the Shearer/Keane situation ever happen?
I doubt it. Keane won't see out the season at Wearside. He said yesterday 'I thought to myself 'Why Not''.
By Christmas he will have a list as long as your arm!
