Irish Boys 'OK'

That left the manager's only real headache his frontline, although his options are such that he has few decisions to make.

Only Michael Owen (knee) and Kieron Dyer (hamstring) remain on the casualty list with the England striker set to miss most of the season and Dyer due back in full training with four weeks.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland will make his Wigan debut at St James Park. Three days after making his international bow against Greece, Kirkland will see senior action with his new club after arriving from Liverpool on a six-month loan.

Fitz Hall, Denny Landzaat, Emerson Boyce and £5.5million record signing Emile Heskey are also included by manager Paul Jewell, while Pascal Chimbonda is also expected to start after apparently making his peace with the club.
