'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Toon Fans Deserve Better'

He had one fabulous season playing alongside Alan Shearer, before Freddy Shepherd decided he needed the money and sold him to Spurs. Something that Ferdinand wrote about in his book, and it still rankles with him.

Ferdinand: 'I really hope Newcastle break their trophy drought this season. It's the one club I played for, apart from QPR, that I'd love to see win a trophy because their supporters are amazing.

'After the job Glenn did last season, it was right the club gave him the opportunity to have a go.

'It's very difficult to replace Alan Shearer and losing Michael Owen is a huge blow. They need to bring someone in to support Shola Ameobi and Albert Luque. Ameobi definitely has the chance to shine. He's been in Shearer's shadow for the past couple of years and this will be the opportunity he needs to come forward. Luque isn't an out-and-out centre forward - his best position is on the left side - so it's not the same opportunity for him.

'But Newcastle need to win a trophy because their supporters deserve it. They haven't seen success, and that has to be put right.'

Maybe Newcastle supporters should cut their losses.

Good luck 2 newky fans on that trophy but i dont think its gona come any time soon. now is the time to move on top class players ie; klaas jan huntelaar of ajax or jan venegoor of hesselink also of ajax. both of these two would bring you 20-25 goals a season and after spurs have ruled ourselves out of a move for ven of hes, you could pick him up for around 8m and still hae spare cash laying about. another option would be mido. he showed last year that he can mix it with the best and as we now have berbatov and have no need of his services other than as a 4th striker, he would be a great player to sign at around only 3m as well
ExiL
The problem is Newcastle need a 1st class striker, I would have thought that that would have been the priority before signing duff, Newcastle are short of money so whatever happens it will not be a striker of class........sorry to say it lads but unless Freddy digs deep I can see only mid table for you guys!!
sidyid
Newcastle are a very well supported club but have absolutely balance in their squad. Duff will be a great signing for sure and at 5 million will prove to be a bargain IF you can keep him fit but given your track record with injuries I wouldnt count on it. So the question is do you have enough money to strengthen yur squad where you need to? Both defenders and strikers? I dont think so unless you sell most of the fringe players and replace them with just a few faces of quality... mind you we managed to rob Charlton of 3 milion for fat Andy Reid so you may be lucky enough to get 5 quid for Boumsong.
molesy
Your defence is a joke & a relagation battle should not be ruled out, just remember that Roeder has taken EVERY side he managed DOWN(Gills,Watford & Wham)........Luque would struggle to score in a brothel,Is it 50 yrs since you won anything..??You are well out of the top 5 reach...Chelsea,Liverpool,Manure,Arsenal & Spurs are the only BIG clubs in the country so dont kid yourselves that your a big club because you get big crowds, thats only because your a 1 club city......The truth is things will never work under Freddie Shepard,he is a moran who is bankrupting you due to his poor judgement in footballers talents & worth....You are fast turning into a Leeds United.
chalky76
Apologies for chalky76... he's not typical of Spurs fans - we don't all have our heads in the clouds / up our own @rses.. Chalky - one good season does not give Spurs the right to mix it with the other 4 teams you mentioned - not yet... Newcastle have every right to claim that they are on level with Spurs and then some - sure, they've had a bad season - but they're still in contention with the money they make, fanbase - players such as Parker, Given, Emre, Ameobi and signings such as the calibre of Duff. Also - if you're going to claim the higher ground on Newcastle - learn how to spell - what is a 'moran' - descendant of some distant Irish clan? COYS
DB
the prem needs teams like spurs and newcastle to be strong enough to challenge the top 4. It seems fairly obvious where your weakness's are, although your defence was much stronger under roeder bramble and boumsong wouldnt fill me wtth confidance, however taylor and rammage will hopefully be pushing for a starting place. with only ameobi + either luque, duff or dyer (if ever fit) as a second striker you will struggle until this is sorted.
oxfordspur
Is it just me or does the squad picture on your official website of N'Zogbia look like a young Ledley King?
oxfordspur
newcastle are *****, they are the most hyped overrated shower of ***** in england! how about they lower their expectations instead, i mean they havent even won anything in about 50 generations of people. the only people who love newcastle, are geordies, no-one else! we have fans all over the world. and DB we have finshed convincingly above them for the last 4-5 years. how do you work out they are anyway near the same standard as us? truth be told, they are a joke, they pin their hopes on one player and hope for the best. its embarressing!
elmo85
DB wtf are you going on about how the hell are newcastle on the same level as spurs?? they have never one anything period and you sticking your tongue up there arses to try and make freinds is pathetic. They are not gonna win anything this year so forget it pal!!
woddywoo
DB, no offence buddy but are you retarded!? Newcastle have a big stadium and lots of long suffering fans, that's it!!! They are a mid table team at best for this season! badly run and poorly managed. they won't win anything, not this year!!
BaldyYid
agree that db is a *****. newcastle are a sad story, fans that dont know any better than to pin their hopes on boumsong and bramble at the back? even stevie carr has turned *****e since he moved! your gonna need to score 5 goals a game to get champions league! go steal a car u geordie *****s!
gabotheyido
just read db 's cra-p again he is a gooner!
gabotheyido

COOP1407
ann I think if we can get to top 10 at the PREM League will be very very luckey.
LAWRENCE

ExiL
hahahahaha yeah n'zogbia does look like a young ledley!!! http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/SeniorSquad/0,,10278,00.html

Sorry fellow Spurs fans, but I'll have to agree with DB (Good to see some honest folk on here). We might have had our best season in the Prem last year, but that doesn't give us a right to belittle another team who IS (in a way) on the same level if you look over the entire histroy of the Premiership (since 1993). The fact that they have taken part in the Champions League on 2 seperate occasions and we haven't makes the comments of fellow spurs fans sound like they are the reason why Spurs fans have an unjust reputation of being 'fickle' and deluded! If you are talking about the prospects of this season and hindsight of the one just gone (last season), then Yes, Spurs are FAR SUPERIOR than Newcastle, but they are going through a period I would say similar to Spurs under Francis. Regarding Newcastle's prospects for this season, I reckon they have the potential to finish in the top 8, but also have the potential for a relegation fight. They do seem 'all over the place' on and off the pitch. I heard from a liverpool fan (regarding Kuyt) that newcastle were prepared to pay him double wages and outbid Liverpool. This is just plain craziness for someone in Shepherds position. He gives the impression that he's Abramovich's younger brother with this 'Money no object' attitude, so I can understand those who liken newcastle to leeds, he's definately trying his hardest to resemble them. The fact that you (newcastle) literally have no defence, coupled with Roeder's track record, that combination would have me worried about this upcoming season. Making us hard to beat would be my FIRST priority ie, defenders,NOT STRIKERS!
SiBo
I hope that newcastle have a good season because they used to be a title contendor but noe they have failed a bit on their quality. last season they started cr*p but finally got in to their stride and were up there. I think the loss of alan will hit newcastle.
swanzboichris
I really dont see the point in going on about who is the biggest club, people judge it by so so many different criteria! But to be honest, what makes a club great is not the size of its stadium, its the size of the Trophy cabinet! Up until Newcastle's CL appearances very few abroad would have known who they were, similar to my Depor in Spain! Who knew about Depor 10 yrs ago, nobody outside of Spain! Now we won the league a few cups and played regularly in the CL including a semi-final and many know who we are! As for my other team Spurs, if you look at the here and now we are the better team and thats all that matters! Get your money out - who finishes higher Spurs or Newcastle - only a fan or a complete fool backs Newcastle! No quality in defence or attack, solely in midfield! Forget about it, need atleast 5 players to challenge us and then the top 4! Ameobi is average at best and Luque is not a striker, he's a left wing forward who can arrive in the box and score but he aint a 15-20-25 goal a season striker! CB's are very average at best! Even the full-backs are average, it really is poor! Solano is gd, Parker is very good as is Duff, Emre still has plenty to prove and so does Luque! Luque arguably occupies the same position as Duff as does N'Zogbia - just shows the stupidity of those in charge! Not the fans fault! When you have Luque and N'Zogbia you dont buy Duff! Newcastle should get Martins and Nugent at a minimum! Then Bridge. Woodgate back from Madrid on a pay as you play deal and maybe some1 like Upson from Birmingham! That would give them the ability to challenge Us for 5th spot! Even without Woodgate, they could be looking at up2 20-25m for those 4 others!
El Jefe
Don't know if Newcastle have the dough for the deals. It is a shame in a way that a club with such a willingness to spend and good fans has been unable to win 1 single trophy! At Depor we had a lot of dough (not as much as Newcastle) and nowhere near the support and yet became 1 of the best teams in Spain and arguably Europe! We won trophies and made history! Actually I'll tell you why, great Chairman and its the same with Spurs now and with Porto in Portugal! Great chairman make great football clubs! Chairman who know how to squeeze the best out of every buy and every sale and every sponsorship deal and every manager, etc, etc, etc! Mourinho is a great manager for example, but thats because he has worked with 2 great chairman! Clearly Abramovich is a great chairman because he'll give you un-limited funds, although he knew to bring in a quality manager who would use his money to good effect in terms of trophies! Of course over-payment and mistakes are natural, but atleast Chelsea have been able to buy the title unlike Newcastle who have tried to do so but failed!
El Jefe
cant belive it 2 spurs fans that actualy talk sense , compared to the usauly pathetic dribble we get on our site from them
COOP1407
WOT A LOAD OF OLD PR**** ON THIS SITE LOL AV U EVER HEARD MORE BULL SH** LIKE THIS WOT GIVES SPURS THE RIGHT TO BE CALLED BIGGER THAN US JUST CAUSE U AV SOME CRAP PLAYERS IN THE ENGLAND SQUAD DOD'T GIVE YA A RIGHT TO BE CALLED BIG THE ONLY THING BIG ABOUT U LOT IS YA MOUTHS ALL TALK THE PLAYERS IN YOUR SQUAD IS NOT BIG ENOUGH 2 CHALLAGE THE LIKES OF THE TOP 4 THE ONLY THING YOUR GONNA BE FIGHTIN 4 THIS SEASON IS RELERGATION U THINK YOUR A BIG TEAM WITH CLASS PLAYERS LOL DOD'T MAKE ME LAUGH IF YA AVIN A BAD DAY JUST COME ON HERE AND LISTEN TO THESE LOT TALK **** IT WILL GET YA LAGHING AT LEAST AND THEN ANOTHER PRAT ON HERE SAYIN WE OFFERED DIRK KUYT 90,000 GRAND A WEEK IS HILERIOUS WE DID'T EVEN BID 4 HIM IT JUST GOES 2 SHOW'S WOT A LOAD OF PEOPLE ON HERE KNOW JACK **** AND COMPARIN US TO LEEDS AGAIN TALKIN A LOAD OF **** ITS JUST CAUSE THEY THINK THEIR BIGGER THAN US LOLWE AV MONEY 2 SPEND UNLIKE U LOT IF U CARRY ON THINKING YA BIG IT'LL COME BACK 2 HAUNT YA U WAIT AND SEE
geordie boys
with our team and manger .. spurs is much much better than us..
LAWRENCE
Geordie boys, listen m8 no 1 neither of us are going to be fighting relegation, but if its gonna be either of us, the likelihood is Newcastle! Of course Newcastle arent a Leeds, BUT its because of maybe people like you who turn up every week and sell out a 50,000+ stadium, because the people in charge of your money are just as bad as those who were at Leeds, arguably worse, cos atleast at Leeds they had quality all over the pitch! As for Us not having any money, you know very little about our finances! We had a transfer kitty of around 15-20m prior to signing big sponsorship deals guaranteeing around 14m every season for the next 4 seasons! Add to that Carrick's money, Reid, Kelly, Marney, etc and we got close to 20m in cash with more possibly to come with add ons! Thats a lot of money by any1's standards! Note we have pretty much got a 0 balance, as in sales covered buys, when was the last time Newcastle could point to such a fete - bad management as I say! As fans we dont care about money, but as fans we care about the progreesion of our team and when things are going bad we want new signings to get us out of the ***** and when things are going good we want new signings to push us that extra bit towards glory, but money is needed to do this and the closer you can get to 0 balance the closer you are to maintaining a great club! Negative equity is not a good thing and Newcastle suffer a lot from it! We are a big club in history terms and tradition but currently we are not a big club in terms of the last 5-10 yrs, but in terms of last season and the squad we have, we are a big club in the making again on and off the field! Spurs are on the up and a clear sign of this is that more and more Spurs player's are considered good enough to make it into the England Squad, which is an honour for any club! As for Kuyt, there was only ever going to be 1 winner when Liverpool came in, massive name, in CL and supposedly challenging for the PRem, althuogh they looked pretty average today! In saying that, they had players missing and Riise and Hyppia off injured in 1st half, neway well done Sheff Utd, will certainly give teams problems this yr based on todays performance!
El Jefe
OI EL JEFE MATE HE DID'T REJECTS US WE DID'T BID 4 HIM IN THE 1ST PLACE HOW MANY TIMES MAN HE'S A **** PLAYER AND U SAY U DOD'T CARE ABOUT MONEY WELL OBVIOUSLY YA DO OR YA WOULD AV SAID LOL. U SAID YOUR A BIG CLUB IN THE MAKIN BECAUSE SPURS PLAYERS ARE BEING PICKED 4 ENGLAND THAT DOD'T MEAN NOTHIN ITS JUST BECAUSE WE'VE GOT ANOTHER PRAT IN CHARGE OR ENGLAND THAT'S WHY IT AIN'T BECAUSE U AV GOOD PLAYERS AT ALL.
geordie boys
geordie boys: because thats life, dont kid yourself its embarresing. to the spurs fans that are of the opinion of DB your an embarressment to all spurs supporter. stop licking *********, will you, ffs.
elmo85
Nobody's lickn arses, just trying to show that some fans have enough intelligence to show idiots for what they are without resorting to their level! Geordie boys, if you did not bid its because you knew he would turn you down, plain and simple! Liverpool or Newcastle - thats a hard decision!! Of course I care about the club's money, its what pays for the what we need! Now, as for ***** players - give me an assessment of Baba-baba-baba yeah that LB, Boumsong and Bramble! Then move on to your striker's - sorry striker Ameobi! You have a gd GK and a gd midfield, what price would you pay to have King, Dawson, Lennon, Berbatov, Keane and Defoe? Oh of course their ***** and Newcastle wouldn't want them! So he's a prat whose team beat the current European champions 4-0 in a 1 sided game - OK! Perhaps Newcastle need to look beyond names and try un-earthing true talent, but then you need quality management to do anything like that!
