'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Boumsong Back In Favour

He was returning to action on the international scene despite being froze out of the French side in the World Cup. He is well behind in the pecking order at the heart of the United defence.

I don't know of any club who make it known in the press that they are after a player before actually making move, so I wouldn't read to much into the 'Hamburg are pondering a bid for Newcastle United defender Jean-Alain Boumsong' story. You get the feeling the press put forward the name, waiting for a reaction, as Hamburg try to fill the void left by Daniel van Buyten's move to Bayern Munich.

Hamburg director of sport Dietmar Beiersdorfer answered: 'He (Boumsong) is not happy there and I know him from his Auxerre days.' But that was as much as he said.

It's all so frustrating for Glenn Roeder who needs the money to sign players of his own. The list of interested parties grows by the day, but no club as yet is willing to pay his ridiculous wages and the player refuses to take a pay cut.
