So then, another window shuts and the usual noises can be heard from various angles of our great club. The club with the near, yet so far and the fans who are sightly mystified over the lack of strength in depth , not even a loan in.
Analysing in depth only really shows 2 ways in which this gamble can go.. Success (European football) or failure. Failure can stem from relegation to finishing outside of the Euro spots. Relegation is almost certainly not gonna happen and the club's original personal target of top 10, well within reach. The revised target of top 6 would have been a tad easier with the signings we could have made in this window just closed but that's the gamble i suppose.
We bought that striker we have have needed for a year and it's not quite panic stations over that defender so maybe it's the best policy to wait for the best value we can get or the best quality for the price we want to pay. Id rather we sign a top class defender for £10 million than a run of the mill one for 5.. Top clubs don't do that, so hopefully the club has learned from mistakes in the past and realises the potential that's here. The potential that we can be a top club for years to come.
This potential could be realised very soon if we keep hold our our best players, sell a bit of dead wood including the obvious candidates. Investment in the playing side of £20 million a season could easily be enough to gain the rewards of higher payouts via European qualification, Premier League prize money, increased merchandise sales and the corporate side of the business. Not to mention the increased popularity we would receive from Europe, the far east and maybe the world.
So, onwards and upwards we go (hopefully). I just hope we're all singing off the same hymn sheet.
